Travel Slam

Travel Slam
Around the World in Just Over an Hour
At the Travel Slam, three adventurers compete for the audience’s favor. What’s required are interesting experiences and the ability to present them in an entertaining way.
Participants share their personal experiences through a 15-minute presentation accompanied by plenty of photos. An evening lasts about an hour and a half.
The winner, chosen by the audience, receives the “Golden Travel Scepter” and an attractive prize. The first-place winner also gets to spend an additional five minutes sharing stories from their journey.
Host Thomas Finke guides the audience through the evening and asks follow-up questions (together with the audience).
However, winning isn’t the main focus—rather, it’s about building a community of like-minded people. That’s why the show also serves as a kind of “travel lounge” for those infected with wanderlust.
Participants listen to one another, get to know each other, and this naturally extends to interactions with the audience as well.
Previous Travel Slam locations: Andernach, Bergisch-Gladbach, Berlin, Bochum, Dorsten, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Freiburg, Herne, Cologne, Hamburg, Heilbronn, Munich, Norderstedt, Reutlingen, and Stuttgart.
Host: Thomas Finke
Doors Open / Start
8:00 p.m. / approx. 9:00 p.m. (after dark)

4-week trip through Vietnam
Kerstin Brück writes about “Vietnam in Your Mid-40s—or: Why All You Really Need for an Adventure Is WhatsApp.”
“We were actually looking for the big adventure: chaos, culture shock, extreme experiences.
Instead: people who constantly wanted to help us, a surprising amount of comfort—and sleeper buses that, while they look like a bad fever dream, somehow still work.
Amid street food stalls, night buses, and spontaneous travel decisions, we realized: Vietnam wasn’t half as exhausting as we’d expected … but twice as welcoming. And that’s exactly what took us completely by surprise.”

Across Germany diagonally
On foot: 1,703 kilometers – 20,154 meters of elevation gain – 21 days from Basel to Cape Arkona.
Andreas Dietrich from Dresden and Jörn Schlag from the Allgäu hiked diagonally across Germany in May 2025—1,703 kilometers in 21 days from Basel to Rügen. The hike was marked by small stages that added up to something big: “We experienced the route in moments, and each one brought us closer to our goal.” They were deeply moved by the kind of support they received: from homemade refreshment stations to thoughtful welcome packages. In total, more than 100 people accompanied them along the way. This sense of human connection and the feeling of being part of something bigger is what made this run so special for them.

A round-the-world trip with a difference
Buckle up—and you might as well leave it buckled. It’s going to be an adventure. Corinna Klimmek travels across the continent and takes you on a world tour with a difference: “After suffering from burnout and a breakup, I quit my job and set out, above all, on a journey of self-discovery. For 10 months, I wandered around the world—but not all at once. It was a world tour with breaks. Every month, I explored a different country. Get ready for a blockbuster in narrative form. Where was I arrested? What happened to my leg? What wild animals did I encounter? How did a near-death experience change me? Stories about true freedom, clumsy mishaps, special encounters, and genuine friendships.”
